FAMILY
What to expect
and how to prepare for your upcoming family shoot
OUTFITS
When it comes to family photos, OUTFITS ARE EVERYTHING! Now that’s not to put more pressure you but to simply give you the tools you need to make sure your photos turn out beautiful!
Earth-tones photograph best, period. Other colors I like to incorporate are also creams, whites, and blacks.
Places I like to shop include:
Zara (great for all ages, genders, and sizes)
Woven (great for simple, chic clothes for mom) PLUS these guys are local! They have incredible style and will help you find a style that makes you feel great! Their sizing range is inclusive.
Target (great for all ages, genders, and sizes)
Madewell (great for simple, chic clothes for mom)
Freepeople (great for simple, chic clothes for mom)
When all else fails there’s old navy!
*pro tip: Find mama’s outfit first and build the rest around her! It’s easy to find kiddos and clothes for dad, but mommy’s seem to have the hardest time finding something they feel great in! Why not cut to the chase and decide her’s first!
Makeup
While makeup is not include in my family packages, that doesn’t mean it’s not at the top of my priority list! If you are able to budget a little extra this is the place to do it!
Macey Chambers- she is fast, very reasonably priced and AMAZING at what she does! I trust her the most when it comes to clean, beautiful makeup. She does the makeup for all of my senior shoots! Her number is (208) 317-8983. She works full time in her salon so she may not get back to you quickly however she does check back to people when she can.
Randi Bennett- she’s the epitome of glamour and although she does operate at a hire price range she does beautiful work. She prefers to be contacted via her website at RB Artistry
Colors I like to avoid are: Neons, Bright engine red, Turquoise, Orange, and yellows. These colors are NOT complementary to my editing style and generally do not shoot well.
Nails + Spray tans
These are two things I recommend but don’t push. As far as nails, I would say either paint your nails, have them done professionally, use press ons, OR KEEP THEM CLEAN/REMOVE POLISH. I can’t and won’t edit your nails in the photos. This is the same with self tanner or spray tans. If you are working with a new solution or spray tan artist for the first time, it’s best to do a trial run as I can not fix problems that result from that.
Pro tip: do not include logos into your clothing outfits. These can seem messy or not polished.
Pro tip: avoid hats if possible. If it comes to being insecure without one, I would advise keeping it. After all I want everyone feeling their best selfs but just know it does create harsh shadows on the face that can’t be “fixed”
Any questions?
