The secret to boundaries

Boundaries can be one of the biggest challenges in any entrepreneurs life. I means that sometimes we have to say no to business and yes to what fits our needs as humans and more importantly as mothers.

This sounds crazy but I truly believe having a savings account is key to being able to set and keep your boundaries.

Hear me out friend…

If you are in a good position and have a great deal of savings then you are not forced to take on jobs that don’t suite you. Eventually you’ll realize that by taken on jobs in the photography industry that do not spark passion will not only bring you more of that same work but will also downplay your talent. I can look at most photographers work and pin point what it is that they are truly excited about shooting. As creatives we need to choose work that bring us joy. Now this is not to say I haven’t taken on work when I shouldn’t have, or that you shouldn’t take on jobs when your first starting your business. Boundaries can be flexible and change as you grow but it is important to remember ultimately it is only fair for us and our clients to be true to ourselves.

An easy way that I’ve found be able to create and keep savings is to open up a savings account along with my checking account that I move money over frequently. Because we only use credit cards and pay them off in full each month we do not spend anything but utilities out of our regular checking. We leave a certain amount in our checking amount and if anything comes in that puts our balance over that amount we immediately move to our savings. I probably move small amounts over to savings about 5-10 times a month. Little increments of money moved over each month warrant big savings long term.
